JODS Editor Report May 2023

I am pleased to present the May 2023 edition of the JODS Editor Report, which highlights the latest updates and discussion points regarding the future direction of our journal.

Unfortunately, we must report that the Feb 2023 edition of JODS was delayed and eventually not published due to a lack of article submissions. However, we are confident that our new plans for the journal's development will generate greater interest and engagement from our readership.

We have reached a consensus on the future of JODS. We will continue with four issues per year and aim for one to two original research manuscripts per issue. Additionally, we plan to transform JODS into more of a magazine-style journal by incorporating commissioned articles on "hot" topics in day surgery and inviting council members and/or their contacts to produce content for the journal.

We will emphasize how-to guides, expert reviews, editorials, and other contributions from council members, BADS members, and others to publish in JODS. We will also encourage contributions from council members to an online database of "hot" topics in day surgery that we can use to commission articles for JODS. Our aim is to include one to two non-original research articles per issue. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11IyDeY_RyucvjQYs5cP1iIOP7OE3UWtoykkvJXZlIOo/edit?usp=sharing

In terms of marketing, we will integrate JODS into the BADS Social marketing plan with regular posts to invite submissions and content writers. I will work closely with Holly @101 to provide these marketing posts.

Finally, regarding the JODS archive, we plan to transfer old JODS Issued up to ten years prior onto the new platform and publish them as a single file per issue in pdf/html format. We have determined that transferring each article individually from each JODS issue is extremely time-consuming and expensive and does not add any benefit regarding indexing or citation.

Thank you for your continued support of JODS, and we look forward to bringing you exciting new developments in the future.
